Plant steelwork is defined less by the steel and more by everything it has to connect to. A pipe rack has to accept piping that expands and contracts through hundreds of degrees. Equipment supports have to land on anchor bolts already cast into a foundation by a civil contractor working to different tolerances. Platforms have to clear valves and instruments that the piping designer moved after the steel was detailed. None of this shows up on a tonnage rate, and all of it decides whether the steel erects in the sequence the programme assumed. Then there’s the detail that catches people out on bolted connections. High strength friction grip bolts work by clamping two plates together so the load transfers through friction at the contact surfaces. That friction depends on the condition of those surfaces. Coat them with an ordinary paint system and the slip resistance drops, because the coating is now the interface. Slip-critical connections need faying surfaces either masked during coating or coated with a system tested for slip coefficient. A Structural Steel Fabrication Company in India working on plant projects has to know which connections are slip-critical and handle those surfaces accordingly. Sharma Technocast fabrication produces plant steelwork with detailing, cutting, welding, surface preparation, and coating handled in-house.
